About Sensei Theraun Mixon
Theraun Terrence Mixon is the owner of Japan Karate Institute on James Island branch. In 2008, he joined JKI and began his training under Chief Instructor Shihan Dale Coker and his mentor, Assistant Chief Instructor Sensei David Mitchell.
Two years later, Shihan Dale Coker recommended him to the JKI Instructor's Academy. He was awarded the title of Sempai(Assistant Instructor) and became the primary instructor of Little Ninjas at JKI in West Ashley. Soon after he was awarded the assistant teaching position under Sensei David, and in 2012 he earned his Black Belt. Sensei Theraun also worked in law enforcement for the South Carolina Department of Corrections. Within a year's time, he has obtained the rank of Corporal and has trained several officers.
About Sempai Calin Dooley

Carlin Dooley First started with Japan Karate Institute at the early age of 11 years old in 2011. Due to a natural talent in karate he moved up in belt rank very quickly along with his teaching abilities. In 2013 Carlin successfully completed the Junior Instructors program and then began to train under Sensei Theraun T. Mixon at the West Ashley location. Sensei Theraun saw much potential in Carlin and referred him to under-go the Instructors academy.
In 2015 Carlin successfully completed the academy and from then on has earned the title of 'Sempai' which means assistant instructor. When Sensei Theraun started the James Island location, Sempai Carlin offered his assistance in helping Sensei Theraun build the dojo to succession, where Sensei Theraun gladly accepted. Sempai Carlin has continued to increase in his ability to teach, train, and promote from which are the three legs of an instructor at Japan Karate Institute. Sempai Carlin is a great role model for young students as well as leading by example for beginning students. He continues to flourish under the guidance of Sensei Theraun and has a bright future ahead of him.
